      Science Meets Service

We're hosting the first ever DataDive at the University of Michigan THIS WEEKEND, February 10 - 12, 2012! And we want you to come! A weekend full of data analysis, visualization, and workshops all to help non-profits in the Ann Arbor - Detroit area.

Inspired by the organization Data Without Borders, the School of Information and Open.Michigan are teaming up to bring together data scientists with non-profits in need of help. Over the course of one weekend, data geeks will clean, parse, mine, analyze, map, and visualize large data sets, volunteering their skills to non-profits that otherwise would be unable to use their information in any meaningful way. There's no rules, there's no set schedule. Think of a hack-a-thon or design jam, but for data!

Check out the rest of our site for more information on what we're doing, and how you can get involved!

Go to the Open.Michigan site to register as a Data Diver!

      Software
We cannot provide you with software, so please come with your own data analysis, imaging, or otherwise awesome tools for the DataDive. All the software that will be featured in the workshops is open source.

      Building Entry
Space 2435 is accessible right off of State Street. After-hours building access is only possible with an MCard, but we'll have volunteers available to help you get in and out as you need.

      Parking
Visitor parking is available on surface streets (metered) and in municipal lots and structures within a few blocks of North Quad. You can also download the Central Campus Parking Map. Liberty Street Parking Structure is $2/day after 4pm on Fridays, all day on Saturdays and free on Sundays. Check out a map here.

      Cell Phone Coverage
A lot of cell phones don't get coverage in the basement of North Quad, where our workrooms are stationed. Just be aware of that.
